Back in 2020, I wrote a bunch of folk songs and recorded them on my flip phone so I'd remember how they went. They were sweet little songs about lizards and rain and suffocating trauma. I sent them to my good friend Dylan Rodrigue and he suggested we try to build an album from these original lofi recordings. Together with Malachi DeLorenzo, he smeared in drums and bass, guitars, pedal steel, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, and bass clarinet until things felt right. The resulting album, Beauty Sleep, sounds fractured and haunted in a way that I think captures the real human terror in these songs.
